Ammit (“Devourer of the Dead”) was an ancient Egyptian funerary deity/demon, not worshipped, but feared as the personification of divine retribution. With the head of a crocodile, body of a lion, and hindquarters of a hippo, she resided in the Hall of Two Truths, consuming the hearts of unworthy souls that failed the judgment.
