EMPATHY / KNOWLEDGE / HUMAN / FREEDOM
Free slaves in America, particularly following the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation and the 1865 13th Amendment, transitioned from bondage to a, often difficult, precarious liberty. They faced immense challenges, including systemic racism, economic hardship, and the fight for civil rights, while many joined the Union Army, searched for family, or sought education.
RELIK A-Z: 40 Acres & A Mule — Reparations & Slavery Series
The promise was made. Then it was taken back. The 40 Acres & A Mule collection is an educational trading card series documenting the history of American slavery, emancipation, and the long fight for reparations — told through the people, laws, and broken promises that shaped it all.
Cards cover the Emancipation Proclamation, Freedman/Freedwoman status, the Fugitive Slave Acts, Garrison Frazier, Special Field Orders No. 15, Indian Slavery, the health crises faced by formerly enslaved people, and the ongoing case for Reparations for Slavery. Each card pairs striking original artwork with documented historical fact.
This is the history that was deliberately left out of textbooks — finally given the weight it deserves.
Part of the RELIK A-Z Knowledge Card system, each card carries point values, rarity levels, and category tags connecting to the larger RELIK Human universe.
