Baba Yaga is a complex, ambiguous figure in Slavic folklore-part menacing witch, part wise crone, and sometimes a helper.  She is iconic for living in a forest hut on giant chicken legs, flying in a mortar while wielding a pestle, and often eating children, representing a wild, untamed nature deity.
