EMPATHY / ANIMAL / DODO BIRD
The dodo (Raphus cucullatus) was a large, flightless pigeon endemic to Mauritius, which became extinct around 1690, shortly after its discovery in 1507. Renowned as a symbol of human-induced extinction, this approximately 23 kg bird went extinct due to invasive species—rats, pigs, and cats—introduced by sailors, along with hunting and habitat loss.
