Neurogenesis is the biological process of forming new functional neurons from stem cells, which is most intense during embryonic development but continues in specific adult brain regions (notably the hippocampus and subventricular zone) throughout life. These new neurons integrate into existing neural circuits to aid learning, memory, and cognitive function.
